Vejers and nearby area
A world of experiences – outside the site too!
Surroundings
Vejers Stand has evolved over the last 100 years from a small west coast community to a holiday home and vacation town with small shops for everyday needs and typical west coast souvenirs, cafés and restaurants and the Strand-Galleriet. The original village of Vejers was located 3 km further inland than the current Vejers Strand town. The farms were spread over a larger area and only the fishermen's "Esehuse" were located just behind the first row of dunes. Our brochure "Det gamle Vejers" (free at the reception in Danish and German) shows a very interesting way back to a bygone era and can be used as inspiration for walking or cycling in the surrounding area.
The military training area in the Nature Agency's plantations in Oksbøl and on the beach between Vejers and Blåvand is closed during shooting exercises. The red ball in the mast is hoisted to the top and the red lamps are lit in the areas in question during exercises(The noise portal in Oksbøl shooting range).
From 2025 and every two years thereafter, the Army will provide a comprehensive insight into both historical and modern military equipment and demonstrate their skills in combat and shooting exercises at Kallesmærsk Hede between Vejers and Blåvand in "Open Heath ". It's a magnet for locals and tourists alike, as it's the only place in the world where civilians can get so close to live fire.
The dunes around Vejers Strand (see also www.naturparkvesterhavet.dk) are both an important breeding and resting place for many endangered species and a shelter from the sea. They are the only thing that protects the town from the west wind and the rough sea with its storm surges. It takes a long time to stabilize a damaged dune, so let's not forget old knowledge about how we can all preserve such a unique landscape. Of course, we are not blind to the phenomenal coastal views the dunes offer, but with every step you take in the dunes, away from the marked paths, sand is moved and vegetation is challenged.
Hence our prayer:
So when you find a beautiful, sheltered spot in the dunes, please don't dig here and only use established paths. When walking your 4-legged friend, please don't let them run free in the dunes, even outside the leash season. Fires in the dunes are prohibited at all times. Please always remember not to leave litter in nature, take it to the nearest trash can.
How is the beach in Vejers Strand? We are part of the Nordic labeling scheme "Badepunkt", which from 2020 replaces the Blue Flag on the municipality's beaches. This is because there must be space for dogs and cars, which there isn't on Blue Flag beaches.
By raising the Badepunkt flag, both four-legged and four-wheeled visitors are welcomed and Badepunkt stands for clean bathing water, high bathing safety, basic infrastructure and the opportunity for special experiences:
To the south, a beautiful wide car beach beckons - not just ideal if you have difficulty walking. However, you shouldn't drive closer than 20 meters to the water's edge and of course not up the dunes. The southern end is even an area for kite enthusiasts and kite surfers, while the quieter northern beach is only accessible to all non-motorized two- and four-legged friends. The roaring North Sea(DMI tide tables) has something to offer the whole family and shows a new face every day - sometimes amber washes up from the depths, sometimes different kinds of mussels or shells. Water dog or land crab? Camping by the North Sea is for the whole family.
In addition to the beach, the nature around Vejers offers unique experiences further inland, where sand drift used to be a major problem, such as along the entire west coast. Therefore, a number of plantations were established towards the end of the 1800s and into the 1900s. Vejers Plantage offers something quite unique: the home of the red deer -all year round, at dawn or just before nightfall, the lucky visitor can observe large herds of up to several hundred animals in their natural habitat, a magnificent experience not only for nature lovers, especially in the fall when you can experience the majestic red deer roaring in rut.

If it's the winged world that is of greater interest, binocular tours to one of the area's many observation towers at Råsø or Filsø are a good idea.
For a more spontaneous trip, even in windy weather, take a walk in the fairytale dune forest in search of an evocative picture, pick mushrooms and berries for a delicious dish or just vent your soul. How about a trip to what we call Kærlighedsstien, the beautiful deciduous forest area along Ålestrømmen between Strib Sø and the cottage area?
