A sustainability labeling scheme for Danish campsites based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals
Wise people at the UN have come up with many good terms / criteria / goals for a better world, which Camping Outdoor Denmark as the industry association interpreted for an eco-label for sustainability at Danish campsites - it is GREENSTAY.
When you dream of a holiday with a wonderful mix of relaxation, coziness, fresh air and time for socializing and maybe even exercise, then you pack your bikes and hiking boots, cozy blanket and favorite mug, the 2 and 4-legged friends of your heart and come to us! The beautiful moorland and dune landscape around Vejers, large herds of red deer, the restored Filsø lake with lots of wildlife and beautiful views, proximity to Denmark's westernmost point, Blåvandshuk, beautiful sandy beaches with wave showers and cozy towns are just some of the things you can experience starting here from the campsite. It's not just at the beach that you realize that we are all subject to something common, something bigger - the wind rushes, the sea roars, the sunrises and sunsets captivate again and again, endlessly. The white sand can ground you, the expanse of the sky offers the idea of freedom, and the sometimes silent, sometimes powerful energy of the waves amazes again and again. The dune forest, which starts just a few meters northeast of the campsite, offers a completely different atmosphere - here nature breathes the most peace and silence that may resonate within us, bringing back memories of the things we once dreamed of, of the things that are real; of the honest, the authentic.
That's exactly what we want to preserve, which is why we took up the challenge in the spring of 2024 and became GREENSTAY-certified in July. For us, the effort is a logical consequence of a long family tradition in West Jutland. And because we obviously can't do it alone, we invite all guests to be part of it here at StjerneCamping. Big, maybe even scary words are filled with small steps and life. We are excited to see what ideas will come to us and you on this journey and wish you a wonderful time here at our campsite!
Our green stations:
Health and well-being
We welcome all 2- and 4-legged visitors to our campsite for a relaxing break from everyday life. Our motto at the reception is: We are here for you with service, inspiration and information! We are happy to share our personal experiences in the local nature and the surrounding museums and attractions with our guests. Based on our space, we try to book different activities every year through local providers such as NaturKulturVarde.
The guided mushroom tour - which we are pleased to offer for the 2nd consecutive year in 2024 - is becoming a classic. Starting at the reception, we explore the tasty variety of mushrooms in and around Vejers in late summer. Here we find out which mushrooms are particularly good eating mushrooms, which they can be confused with and which characteristics help everyone to find the right identification. This hike also leads along narrow paths through wonderful dune forests and past small lakes and makes you want to explore on your own to deepen your newly acquired or refreshed knowledge.
One local provider we really like is BirdsbyBlau, she is already the highlight of the summer at StjerneCamping for the 2nd time in 2024 with her bird show. Lena comes to us with a selection of her impressive birds of prey. Who will spread their wings this time? The impressive eagle, the fast Harris hawk or one of the owls? An unforgettable experience awaits young and old alike. Only our 4-legged guests should stay away from the event to avoid endangering themselves as unplanned prey.
Nature experiences to rediscover your own pace and enjoyment - there are certainly one or two exciting recommendations in our wealth of experiences that we are happy to share with our guests.

Quality training - we share knowledge and experience.
No question is too stupid to ask - the entire StjerneCamping team is always happy to offer advice and assistance. For us, the working day starts with a cup of coffee and catching up with each other. This is where new projects are born, ideas are gathered, tasks are assigned and results are discussed. It's important to us that our guests can access information and inspiration not only at the reception, each employee is a contact person.
We want to contribute to a relaxed stay with us by providing tailored information at check-in - this includes information about experiences and attractions in the area, behavior in the nature park and military training area, forest fire danger level, safe behavior on the beach and in the dunes and site rules and waste sorting.
In our cabins and in the living area there are folders with the most important information in 3 languages (Danish, German, English) for you to read.
We are particularly proud of the wealth of experience of the owner family. Through generations, knowledge and love is passed on by farmers, beach, forest and dune wardens, and recently supplemented by teachers and nature guides.
The family behind StjerneCamping has no intention of leaving the site in other hands and is instead focusing on developing a long-term shared "future vision for StjerneCamping".
Clean water and sanitation
Water is one of the most important resources for every living being on earth - only together with you, our guests, can we make a difference!
Our contributions include, for example, water-saving fixtures and using environmentally certified cleaning agents and materials wherever possible.
However, we need your attention and initiative, for example if a faucet drips or a toilet does not stop flushing - please be our guest with open eyes, positive words and, if necessary, helping hands and feel free to pass the information on to one of our employees. Thank you very much!
Sustainable energy.
We get our energy exclusively from certified sustainable production from our local supplier Norlys. Our solar modules have already been supplying energy for years to heat the first water tank in the service building. Our heat pump then steps in as a supplement when needed. The common areas are equipped with light and/or motion sensors and we are gradually converting all light sources to energy-saving LEDs. When purchasing new devices, energy consumption and longevity are important selection criteria and with the gradual replacement of our electricity meters with electronic devices read via app, we are giving our long-term campers a tool to better monitor their own electricity consumption.
Together with our guests, we go to great lengths to use this resource wisely.
Our campsite is called StjerneCamping and according to our founder's idea, "everyone, regardless of income, should have the opportunity to vacation under the stars - close to sea, dune forest and heath". That's why we only have the bare necessities of outdoor lighting and what could be more obvious than to use some constellations to name the paths here at our campsite and bring a little piece of heaven down to earth!
In spring, the constellations Leo, Virgo and Hercules appear in the sky over Vejers, in summer Scorpio and Sagittarius are just over the horizon, in fall Cassiopeia, Pisces and Aquarius can be spotted and in winter Orion stands upright with the Great Bear on its side while Taurus orbits both. These are just some of the names of our streets that have their mirror image in the sky. Clear nights at StjerneCamping offer views to infinity and space for the soul to fly.
Responsible consumption.
Sustainability is not just a big word for us, we try to bring it to life by simultaneously making it easy for our guests and ourselves with many small steps and offers, not forgetting to have fun at the same time.
Every year there is a flea market on the site on Thursdays during the holidays - many exciting items have found new, proud owners here. Our lounge is available to our guests for small parties and glasses, crockery and cutlery can be borrowed for a small fee. The shelf with books in different languages is frequently used for swapping and borrowing, and board games also invite you to spend offline evenings together.
With the change in our waste management company, from August 2024 we will offer even more detailed waste sorting: organic waste, used glass and bottles, metal cans, cardboard and paper, mixed plastics, beverage cartons and residual waste can now be sorted directly here on site, while the municipal recycling station in our parking lot still offers additional options.
Climate action
When purchasing for our space, issues such as lifetime and resource consumption in production and transportation are important decision criteria.
With our 4 charging options for electric cars right in front of the reception, we want to give everyone in Vejers a local alternative to charge their car batteries.
